We’ve had a full week of baseball at the MLB and AAA levels and yesterday marked opening day for Low-A, High-A, and AA — so we’re officially back. There was a lot of action and a lot to break down so we’ll start with the usual breakdowns and then cover some notable performances from each level.

Brett Wichrowski (MIL) - High-A:

Wichrowski was throwing low 90s last year and came into camp this year throwing mid-to-upper 90s, touching 99. It was quite a development considering he’s not the biggest guy and that big a leap, while not unfathomable, isn’t common in a single offseason. Well, we got mid to upper-90s Wichrowski again last night as he sat 95-97 on the night. And he paired it with a hellacious slider and slurve combination that kept hitters off balance all night.

His final line was 3IP 1H 1ER 1BB 4K — he racked up 11 whiffs on 47 pitches — and got the game started with 6 whiffs on 7 pitches for 2 quick strikeouts. He looked unhittable to start and nearly was the entire outing. The baserunners he allowed could’ve been called as errors instead of hits and you’ll be able to be the judge for yourself on that when I post the video — and the run allowed came on what was deemed a Sac Fly but was actually an error by the left-fielder. If he had caught the ball cleanly down the left-field line he may have had a shot at gunning the runner down at home. What I’m trying to get at is Wichrowski pitched a lot better than his line — and his line looks good at first glance.

1st Inning:

He looked flat-out dominant in the 1st inning — and much of the night — and his delivery is simple, compact, and repeatable. There are not many moving parts and his arm slot plays well. 5 of his 6 whiffs came on the heavy fastball in the first inning. He didn’t need much else.

2nd inning:
